Psychology has approximately 54 subfields. Industrial-Organizational Psychology (IOP) belongs to Division 14. According to the APA's official definition, I/O Psychology applies psychological principles to the workplace to increase productivity and enhance employee well-being.
Traditional psychology had limited engagement with medical knowledge, but contemporary psychology now integrates various fields, including Biological, Cognitive, Social, Developmental, Clinical, and Counseling Psychology. Additionally, Neuropsychology, Positive Psychology, Environmental Psychology, and Cultural Psychology have expanded its scope and theoretical depth.
Psychology is typically categorized into two major fields: clinical and non-clinical psychology. Clinical psychology focuses primarily on diagnosing and treating mental health disorders, providing therapeutic interventions, and offering support to individuals facing psychological challenges. This field involves direct patient care and is often associated with healthcare settings.
In contrast, non-clinical psychology applies the core principles of psychological science to a wide range of domains beyond healthcare. This includes areas such as business, leadership, organizational behavior, workplace dynamics, and education.

It encompasses both Industrial Psychology, which aims to enhance workforce performance through job analysis, employee selection, and training, and Organizational Psychology, which emphasizes improving employee well-being and optimizing organizational dynamics.
